Our Story

Shadybrook Watersports School and charter service has been operating on Lake Windermere since 2000. Lifelong water ski bum Mat Loyola purchased the school in 2022 and rebranded as Nauti Watersports. A former Shadybrook coach, Mat's longtime dream was to own his own watersports school. The Nauti Watersports team is excited to carry on Mike and Christine’s legacy with the same great Shady experience, just some new energy!

Meet our expert team of NCCP-certified coaches who are ready to teach water skiing, wakeboarding, surfing, and wakeskating. Whether you are a first timer or looking for performance tips, Nauti Watersports instructors can deliver a great time out on the lake with family or friends.

  • Owner

Mat began his waterski journey like many others, as a small child trembling with fear and determination behind his grandpa's old outboard with the intoxicating smell of burning gasoline in his face. He grew up on boats, driving and teaching people to ski. It’s just what his family did and still does for fun.

Since those early years Mat has done just about every watersport you can do behind a boat. While Mat can rip up a wakeboard, surf board, or slalom ski, his favorite has always been barefooting.

  • Parker has grown up in the valley, having spent summers here since he was 6. If you can’t find him on the dock, your best bet is the downhill trails on Mt. Swansea. Having spent countless hours with fast company (some really talented friends) on the water he has become an outstanding surfer, wakeboarder, and coach.

Say the word and he likely has a killer playlist for you to surf to and will take some great pics of you and your family while you make memories.

  • My name is Emma. I was born and raised in Calgary Alberta but now attend the University of Victoria for an undergrad in business.

I have spent my summers in Invermere for almost 15 years. My passion for Watersports started with waterskiing when I was 5 years old and has grown since. This will be my 5th year as a Watersports coach, and I can’t wait for another wicked summer of spreading my passion of Watersports and meeting new people in the process.

  • My name is Nathan. I was born and raised in Calgary, but I’ve spent almost all my summers in Invermere. Next year I will be attending the University of Western Ontario to pursue an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology.

This will be my 14th year in the valley, and I’m excited for my third year as a coach. My love for watersports began at a young age, learning how to kneeboard and now doing tricks on my surfboard and teaching others the same! I’m excited for another great summer on the water, teaching and meeting new people!

  • Hello, my name is Joelyn.

I was born and raised in Calgary Alberta but have spent my summers out in Invermere since my family bought our cabin in 2012.

I first got up on a surfboard and water skis when I was 5 and have been working on my new skills ever since! I have coached and taught my family and friends how to surf for many years and am excited to bring my skills to Nauti watersports for my second year!

I am 18 years old and will be going to school at University of the Pacific in San Francisco for dentistry this Fall.

I can’t wait for a fun summer to coach and spread my passion of water sports to others!

  • My name is Natalie but my friends call me Chubbs. You can call me Chubbs!

Not everyone gets to meet their hero, I was lucky enough to have my hero as an older brother! From a young age I have admired Mats ability to master anything behind a boat. Talent, charm, and rugged good looks, are three things that come to mind when I think of him. Mat has taught me everything I know about skiing, sadly not everything he knows. I am still a lifetime away from his skill and mastery.

It is an honor to work for such a legend. Truly a dream come true. I am 10% as good of a driver as Mat but that's still better than most. I can’t wait to pass on what I've learned from my hero.

Some of our favorite coaches that have moved on to bigger and better Jobs.

  • My name is Jillian and this will be my third summer working as a water sports coach! I love surfing, skiing, and everything on the water. In the winters while I wait for the lake to melt, I spend my time playing basketball at Mount Allison University, where I work away at my undergrad!

  • My name is Mackenzie. I’m born and raised in Calgary but have spent most summer in the valley. Currently I am working towards an undergrad in chemistry at the University of Victoria.

This will be my third summer as a water sports coach, and whether it is skiing, surfing, tubing or just playing in the water, the opportunity to teach others, and enjoy a great day on the water is an unforgettable experience for me and for those I am lucky enough to take out.

When I am not working, I enjoy hiking, golf, and getting back on the water myself. I’m looking forward to another amazing summer on the lake!
